Clipping along at 79 mph, Amtrak #3 follows the course of Galisteo Creek down to the Rio Grande River and a 4:59 PM on-time arrival at Albuquerque. This is northern New Mexico in transition, for around the Los Cerrillos and Gallisteo area the railroad is gaining elevation, and desert sage gives way to small junipers and pinnion trees.

For those who have any desire to see this location, one must resort to hiking as access in this area is limited. From Los Cerrillos go east to CR55A and follow CR55A until it crosses Galisteo Creek and goes under the railroad. From there, hike east for about a mile.
