Signal 8882 sits behind a traditional (though it is not wood) whistle post. The AT&SF used the letter W to signify a whistle post for grade crossings and tunnels, whereas competitor SP and UP used X. For what it's worth, the AT&SF was ahead in this game. To the left of the right-of-way, behind the signal, is milepost 888. Sister pair for 8882, signal 8871, is now a searchlight signal. So, from Bernalillo south there are 4 semaphores still in service, all on a tangent parallel to New Mexico State Route 313.
